BEECHWOOD, ILLINOIS

Beechwood was also known as Mound Junction because the Illinois Central Railroad linked to Mound City at this point. The line was known as The Pilot. It was probably incorporated as a village in the 1880's. The first mayor was L.M. Armstrong. It was located where the construction camp was set up to build the Illinois Central Railroad near Burkville. The area later housed a sawmill that provided sawed timbers to build bridges and a firewood yard to provide firewood for the train engines.

Note:  If you can provide additional information or photos on the history of Beechwood or it's citizens, please contact the webmaster.
